Poole Museum sits on the Quay, which is the right place for it: everything inside came out of the harbour in one sense or another.
The logboat
The Poole Logboat is the object people come for. Hollowed from a single oak around 2,300 years ago and recovered from the harbour mud, it is among the largest Iron Age logboats found in Britain.
The trade
The museum covers the medieval port, and the Newfoundland cod fisheries that made Poole merchants rich from the seventeenth century onwards and paid for the Georgian houses in the Old Town.
The pottery
Poole Pottery carried the town's name internationally through the twentieth century, and the collections reflect that.
Visiting
On Poole Quay, beside the boat departures and at the foot of the Old Town. Allow an hour or so. See museums and galleries.
